June 29, 2006 Contact: Rey Adame 307-352-0399 Rock Springs BLM Responds to Little Bitter Creek FireThe Rock Springs BLM responded to a 50-acre wildfire south of Rock Springs last night. The “Little Bitter Creek Fire” is located approximately 30 miles south of Rock Springs on U.S. Highway 191. The fire was reported to the BLM Fire Dispatch Center in Rawlins at 6:00 p.m. Tuesday. Firefighters from the BLM Rock Springs, Rawlins and Lander field offices were joined by Sweetwater County Fire, Sweetwater County Fire District 1; Goshen County; Torrington Volunteer Fire District and a State of Wyoming Inmate Crew in battling the wildfire. The fire is located only on BLM-administered land as of 5:00 p.m. Wednesday. “Good progress was made on the fire through the Tuesday night and Wednesday,” said Kirk Strom, acting Fire Management Officer for the BLM’s Western Wyoming Zone. Estimated containment is projected for late Thursday evening. -BLM-
