High Desert District Fire & Fuels Management
The BLM Wyoming High Desert District (HDD) is responsible for fire and fuels management on over nine million acres of public land in southern Wyoming. The overall mission of the HDD Fire Management Program is to provide a safe, professional and efficient service to the public and our co-operators while conducting wildland fire or fuels management.
On average, the HDD typically responds to 120 to 140 wildland fires. The nature, geographic location, time of year and cause of a fire will dictate which management practice will be pursued.
Annually, the HDD Fire and Fuels Management Program employs up to 60 permanent and seasonal staff to accomplish fire suppression and fuels management activities. These employees are located in the Kemmerer, Pinedale, Rawlins and Rock Springs field offices which encompass the following programs:
Engines: Rawlins, Rock Springs
Fuels: Kemmerer, Pinedale, Rawlins, Rock Springs
