Planning

The public lands and federal mineral estate administered by the Pinedale Field Office are located within two separate areas; the Snake River RMP and Pinedale planning areas.

Pinedale RMP

The Pinedale Resource Management Plan (RMP) was completed in December, 1988. The RMP was amended in 2000 to revise the reasonably forseeable development scenario (RFD) for oil and gas activity and to withdraw the Wind River Front from oil and gas leasing (Pinedale Anticline EIS).

The RMP has been maintained seven times to address surface-disturbing guidelines for sage grouse leks, timber harvest in elk feed grounds, corrections for lands suitable for disposal, clarification of fire suppression terminology, incorporation of healthy rangeland standards and guidelines, and a change in seasonal restrictions for sage grouse leks and raptor nests.

In February, 2002, BLM issued a Notice of Intent to revise the Pinedale RMP.

Location

  • Covers BLM-administered lands and minerals in portions of Sublette, Lincoln, Teton, and Fremont Counties.
  • Covers 931,000 acres of public surface and 1,185,000 acres of federal mineral estate.
  • For livestock grazing administration, covers 208 grazing allotments containing 107,907 AUMs.
  • With one exception, the planning area is available for consideration for oil and gas leasing, exploration, and development, subject to standard stipulations and by case-by-case application of other mitigation of surface disturbance. The Scab Creek area remains closed to oil and gas leasing. This area is 7,636 acres, with the remaining 1,177,364 acres of the planning area open to consideration.
  • Described designated management for two areas of critical environmental concern (ACEC).
