Recreation Opportunities
There's plenty to do on public lands managed by the Buffalo Field Office. The Bighorn National Forest is just minutes west of Buffalo. If you are looking for a nice picnic spot, Mosier Gulch is 10 minutes from downtown Buffalo. For an educational trip you might visit Dry Creek Petrified Tree EEA, which is about 13 miles east of Buffalo.Are you looking for a good off highway vehicle (OHV) trail? About 25 miles north of Gillette you can find Weston Hills Recreation Area.
Or, if you're a history buff, the Hole-in-the-Wall area is teeming with legends of outlaws and cattle rustlers. Finally, if you just want to relax and enjoy some beautiful scenery or fish in a blue-ribbon trout stream, you can find it all at Middle Fork of the Powder River Recreation Area.
