Billy Creek Biomass ARRA Project

NEED:  The project consists of removing dead and dying limber pine from a mixed conifer stand within the wildland urban interface in Johnson County.

RECOVERY ACT FUNDING:  The project was awarded to Eric Duke of Dynamic Enterprises, for a total of $17,000. The project was completed during the month of August 2010.

BENEFITS:  Approximately 1,500 tons of biomass were produced for the local community. Thinning the bark infested beetle also reduced a fire hazard around the subdivision and made it more resilient.

A portion of the biomass was removed and utilized by the contractor and the remainder is being utilized by the community of Buffalo.
