Family-Friendly Work Environment
At each desk, in every office, files and folders mingle with images of family and friends, of vacations taken, and of vacations yet-to-come. These images are visual reminders of why our employees work, of what is important to them.
At the BLM, we understand the ongoing balancing act between work life and home life. We understand that a parent-teacher conference is as valuable as a conference call, that an anniversary comes but once a year, and that when the work day ends, your life begins.
For this reason, the BLM offers the following family-friendly employee benefits and services beyond those listed on our Insurance, Vacation and Retirement page.
Flexible Work Schedule. In each office, the BLM employee and supervisor create a work schedule that best meets the needs of both the employee and the organization.
|Generous Family Leave. BLM employees may attend to planned and unexpected family situations - such as childbirth and adoption, family care, and bereavement - through paid leave under the Friendly Family Leave Act and unpaid leave under the Family Medical Leave Act. Visit the Office of Personnel Management's website for more information about family-related leave.|
Leave Transfer Program. Through the Leave Transfer Program, BLM employees may donate annual leave to co-workers who have medical or family emergencies and have exhausted their leave time.
Employee Assistance Program. At any time, BLM employees and their immediate family members may take advantage of the Department of the Interior's Employee Assistance Program (EAP). The voluntary EAP provides free and confidential short-term counseling and referral services for issues affecting employees' mental and emotional well-being, such as alcohol and other substance abuse, stress, grief, family problems, and psychological disorders.
Health and Wellness Programs. At some locations, employees have access to on-site fitness facilities and group exercise and health education programs.
