Elizabeth M. Smith was the last woman homesteader. She received her patent on October. 18, 1984. She applied for her homestead on January 25, 1974, and received 116.32 acres of land located about 2 to 3 miles northwest of the Alaskan community of Big Delta. Big Delta is around 90 miles south of Fairbanks, Alaska. She was one of a group of 10 people, including her son William Smith, who filed in the same area in 1974. All received their homestead patents in 1984.
