2 miles east of Moab, Utah.
One of the most famous mountain biking trails in the world, the Slickrock Bike Trail, is located at the Sand Flats Recreation Area. This trail was pioneered by motorcyclists in the 1960s, but adopted by mountain bikers in the 1980s. The hilly and steep 12-mile trail can be strenuous, and is suitable only for experienced mountain bikers. But the beauty of the area can be enjoyed by all. The trail is set on sandstone “slickrock,” with spectacular views of Arches National Park, the Colorado River, and the snow-capped La Sal Mountains. Sand Flats is also famous for the Porcupine Rim Bike Trail, and two four-wheel-drive challenges, the Fins & Things Jeep Trail and the Hell’s Revenge Jeep Trail. Visitors should be prepared to share these trails. This popular area, just outside of Moab, enjoys heavy visitor use, especially in the spring and fall.
From the center of Moab, drive south on U.S. Highway 191 to 300 South. Turn left (east) on this street, and follow the signs to the Slickrock Bike Trail. The Sand Flats Entrance Booth is 2 miles from Moab.
