BLM Learning Landscapes - Wyoming

Wyoming

A discovery of dinosaur footprints on public lands near Shell, Wyoming, could change the way scientists think about the entire Middle Jurassic Period. The site is called the Red Gulch Dinosaur Tracksite, and it is only one of many sites of educational interest in the state. Public lands make up 18 million acres, about 20 percent of the land area of the state, mostly in the high plains and deserts of western Wyoming. The state also contains the middle span in the 2,000-mile historic Oregon Trail corridor. The National Historic Trails Interpretive Center in Casper provides educators with a variety of materials to teach not only Western American history but also science and language arts.
