Artist-in-Residence Poster Series

2013 Poster

Each year a work of art from the previous year’s residencies is selected for the national poster. The 2013 poster highlights the beauty of Canyons of the Ancients National Monument in Colorado.

Titled “Sleeping Ute Awakes,” this painting (shown at right) was chosen for the 2013 poster (shown at right). Artist Lewis Williams said, "I learned the power of wilderness. I am drawn to elements in nature that struggle against other elements, as archetypes of resilience, with a sanctity in being just what they are made to be.” Williams chose a unique portrayal of the monument’s skyline to highlight the landscape.
