Artist-in-Residence Poster Series

2014 Poster

Each year a work of art from the previous year’s residencies is selected for the national poster. The 2014 poster highlights the beauty of Idaho's Bruneau-Jarbidge Rivers Wilderness. Artist JanyRae Seda learned the art of oil painting from her education at the Art Institute of Chicago and has participated in many art shows throughout the West, seeking out unique landscapes and wildlife to paint. JanyRae often make detours on roads less traveled for subject matter. Over the past few years JanyRae has established herself as a painter in the west. Using a brush and palette knife she fills her compositions with bold strokes of rich pigment, vibrant lighting, and rough texture. JanyRae’s depth and movement are created by allowing the original undertones to seep through. Her 1895 studio in downtown Boise, Idaho is where she paints full-time. When not on the road you can find her there working on paintings of clouds, landscapes, trees, wild life and folks she meets along the way.

2013 Poster

The 2013 poster highlights the beauty of Canyons of the Ancients National Monument in Colorado. Titled “Sleeping Ute Awakes,” this painting (shown at right) was chosen for the 2013 poster (shown at right). Artist Lewis Williams said, "I learned the power of wilderness. I am drawn to elements in nature that struggle against other elements, as archetypes of resilience, with a sanctity in being just what they are made to be.” Williams chose a unique portrayal of the monument’s skyline to highlight the landscape.
