Wyoming Mustang Challenge
August, 2008
The Bureau of Land Management (BLM) and the Mustang Heritage Foundation (MHF) have joined forces to present the Wyoming Mustang Challenge in Douglas, Wyoming on August 15-16, 2008. This event is held in conjunction with the Wyoming State Fair. Please view the News Release regarding the event.
The box at the right provides links to four Photo Galleries of trained mustangs ready for adoption at this event. The galleries include information on trainers, a brief description of the wild horse, and links to high-resolution photos of each mustang.
There are several other forums the two organizations have planned where trained mustangs will be offered to the public for adoption. The final event for 2008, The Extreme Mustang Makeover, will be held on September 18-21 in Fort Worth, Texas.
Even if you are not ready to adopt, you will be amazed at the level of training that can be reached in such a short period of time. These trainers have worked with the mustangs for approximately 100 days. The key to training a wild mustang is time and patience. These mustangs came off the public rangelands wild, totally untrained, and without knowing what human beings are. If you are not ready to adopt at this time; simply attend the adoption and watch. You, too, can train a wild mustang or a wild burro.
For a few tips on training a wild mustang or burro, please visit the BLM's quarterly newsletter.
The BLM also provides a comprehensive national adoption schedule for the remainder of the fiscal year.
