Help the Program
Public interest in the Wild Horse and Burro Program has created a strong pool of volunteers to help promote wild horse and burro adoptions and to educate people about the program.
There are many ways to volunteer, including serving in an ambassadors program, in which adopters can showcase their horse to potential adopters. There is also a mentoring program designed for new adopters. Under that program, knowledgeable volunteers help new adopters maximize their experience in caring for a wild horse or burro.
Other volunteer opportunities include helping with range improvements and conducting compliance checks on adopted horses.
The best way to find out about volunteering is to contact your local BLM office, which has the most specific information about opportunities. Opportunities can also be found on the volunteer.gov site. General questions can be addressed at firstname.lastname@example.org or by calling 866- 4MUSTANGS (866-468-7826).
