Invasive Animals and Diseases Also Affect Public Lands

Limited information has been gathered from public lands for non-plant invasive species, such as non-native aquatic species, insects, pathogens, and viruses. 

However, infestations of West Nile Virus, quagga mussels, New Zealand mud snails, and the pathogen Sudden Oak Death have been documented on BLM managed lands and adjacent waters.

Other emerging issues, such as the Cactus moth, aquatic invasive mussels, non-native fish and emerging or newly-introduced weed species, also require immediate management attention.
