Water Rights

Water Resources Program (part of Soil, Water and Air)

Water of sufficient quality and quantity is integral to the successful management of the National System of Public Lands. Just the presence of water is not enough. In the Western United States, the right to use a sufficient quantity of water for any number of beneficial uses is paramount in ensuring proper management of the public lands and is a necessary resource both for mankind’s uses and ecosystem sustainability.
