For example, check out National Public Lands Day, National Trails Day, and the Great Backyard Bird Count. [Right column]: Image: BLM Junior Explorer Program logo (kid detective following footprints). Junior Explorers: Before visiting the public lands, kids can use these activities to learn about the importance of protecting cultural resources. And BLM-Colorado’s Anasazi Heritage Center museum has a Junior Explorers Archaeology program that kids can complete right there. Image: Photo of prehistoric Native American dwelling in the distance. Virtual visits: Virtual tours of diverse historic and prehistoric BLM sites whet the appetite for the real thing. Image: Photo of volunteers at a multi-level prehistoric Native American dwelling. Volunteer opportunities: BLM welcomes volunteers from all walks of life: whatever your interest, there’s a BLM volunteer opportunity to match. And what a great chance for families to come together with a purpose! Visit Volunteer.gov for information on individual volunteer openings. There are even opportunities for very specific types of volunteer work; for instance, “Site Stewards” dedicate themselves to documenting and protecting archaeological resources. Or, for something really different, how about trying a “Volunteer Vacation”? [Elements on right side of page:] Starburst: You can make a difference: sing along with Joe Link to Audio Clip.
