Business Process Improvement

Business Process ImprovementBusiness Process Improvement (BPI) is an end-to-end process that produces something of value. It can officially be defined as, “the redesign of business processes, associated systems and organizational structures to achieve a dramatic improvement in business performance, such as cost, quality, service, and speed.” BPI is not downsizing, restructuring, or reorganization. Facilitated sessions are scheduled to help achieve project goals, along with the use of automated tools, interviews, and various analysis techniques. A typical BPI team will include a sponsor, proponent, facilitator, modeler, and functional subject matter experts. The primary goal of a BPI effort is to document the current and future business processes, and to ensure stakeholder buy-in and support. The overall benefits for an organization that utilizes the BPI Lab and embraces a process approach can be a combination of lower overall costs, reduced process times, and increased customer satisfaction.

BPI Mission
To provide the support and coordination needed to facilitate the business process reengineering efforts conducted for the BLM.

BPI Vision
We will be the premier center for BPR supporting the Bureau. Business managers will utilize our support for any and every situation that requires BPR.

The BPI process specializes in untangling complex processes. The lab is a source of expert knowledge on reengineering. You are invited to look at the information under Methodology to see what steps are involved in reengineering. To see some examples of the reengineering process, look at what others have done under Efforts. For answers to the questions you may have about BPI workshops, be sure and visit the FAQs page. And finally, to schedule your own BPI effort, just talk to the facilitators listed on the Contacts page.
