Applicatons Architecture

ApplicationsThe BLM's architecture provides an integrated view of business processes, data, applications, and technology. The architecture is described using the Federal Enterprise Architecture (FEA) reference models which provides a common taxonomy for use in Capital Planning & Investment Control (CPIC), security and architecture.

Within the Applications architecture task of the BEA, the team is focused on the use of the Conceptual Target Application Architecture (CTAA) and current systems architecture within the Bureau portfolios to create Modernization Blueprints.

The CTAA is a guidance document that represents the Bureau's vision of how systems should be designed and architected for the future.

The BEA team has used the DOI Enterprise Architecture Repository (DEAR) (on the BEA intranet website) to extensively document the existing systems' Information Technology (IT) and business architectures.

The Modernization Blueprints are findings and recommendations resulting from the analysis of the BEAR and the roadmap for short-term and long-term improvements to IT capabilities; all recommendations will move the BLM towards the vision state defined by the CTAA.
