People and Their Public Lands

BLM-managed lands provide a broad array of recreational, scientific, and educational opportunities in addition to such traditonal uses as energy production, timber, and grazing.  The slideshow below includes images from various state offices of people using the public lands.  A 2012 calendar, which uses these images, is also available for download.

The BLM manages 245 million acres of public lands with a workforce of 10,000 employees.  The BLM is one of a handful of agencies that generates more revenue for the United States than it spends.  In 2010, the BLM's management of public lands contributed more than $112 billion to the U.S. economy and supported more than a half-million jobs.
