REA Data Portal Information

Data Products & Services
Users can consume REA data products through a variety of formats and services intended to accommodate a wide range of skills sets and product use.  The primary products and services include:

Downloadable Data - ESRI layer packages

All spatial data sets produced by the REAs are available for download as zipped layer packages .  Each layer package contains the data and symbology information for a specified data set.  Most data sets used to conduct the REAs (i.e., input data) are also available with the exception of proprietary data sets or very large data sets which are already publically available through another source (e.g., digital elevation data).

For each REA, there are dozens to hundreds of datasets available for download .  It is important for users to first consult the Data and Map Catalogs to determine which datasets are of interest to them.

The Data Catalog provides descriptions of the data sets as well as information on their role in the REA (i.e., Does the data represent a Conservation Element or Change Agent? What was the relevant Management Question(s)?).

The Map Catalog provides descriptions of all the available maps – viewing these maps helps the user put the data sets into context, both spatially and thematically.

Map Service - online Maps through ArcGIS

All maps produced by the REA are viewable through map services.  Map services may be viewed through a variety of applications including ESRI ArcGIS ArcMap, ArcGIS.com, ArcGIS Explorer, and Google Earth.  Please note that viewing map services through ArcGIS.com does not require the use of any third party software; all the other viewing applications do require additional software (i.e., you must download Google Earth).  Maps are also available as map files (.mxd format) to BLM personnel or REA Collaborators only (see the Data Access section below for more information on who is included in these users groups).

For each REA, there are dozens of maps available for viewing and download.  All maps published in the final REA reports are hyperlinked to map services such that all users can access maps directly from the reports.  Before entering the data portal, users should review the maps in the report or the Map Catalog to determine which maps are of interest to them.  The Map Catalog provides descriptions of all the available maps, plus information regarding their role in the REA (i.e., Does it display a Conservation Element or Change Agent? What was the relevant Management Question(s)?).

Terminal Services (restricted accessData, Metadata, Maps, and Models

Terminal Services provide the user with access to ESRI ArcGIS Desktop applications (i.e., ArcCatalog and ArcMap) in which they can view and download REA data, maps, and models.  Please note that terminal services are available only to BLM personnel and REA Collaborators (see the Data Access section below for more information on who is included in these users groups); they are not available to the public due to software licensing limitations.
