Please join us in celebrating the 10th Anniversary of the Bureau of Land Management's National Landscape Conservation System with Secretary Salazar and Director Abbey on March 24, 2010.
On March 24, 2000, former Secretary of the Interior Bruce Babbitt laid out his vision for a new conservation system within the Bureau of Land Management (BLM). Ten years later, Secretary Salazar and Director Abbey will reflect on the beginnings of what became the National Landscape Conservation System (NLCS) as well as accomplishments in conserving, protecting and restoring these national landscapes. The Bureau of Land Management's National Landscape Conservation System is an integral part of the Department of the Interior's Treasured Landscapes, with conservation lands set aside for their nationally significant cultural, ecological, and scientific values.
The National Landscape Conservation System works with numerous partners from non-governmental partners to tribal, state and local governments, as well as other federal agencies to manage these special lands. The NLCS has and continues to look for opportunties to increase stewardship, promote sound scientific studies, and encourage continued community involvement to ensure that these areas are preserved for future generations.
The event will be held at 3:30 pm (EDT) on March 24, 2010 in the Department of the Interior's Sidney Yates Auditorium, 1849 C St, NW, Washington, DC. Please enter the Building from the C Street Entrance.
