Artist-in-Residence Sites for 2014

The BLM piloted its national AiR program in 2012 at Canyons of the Ancients National Monument in southwest Colorado.  For 2014, participating sites are expected to include:


The Eastern Interior Field Office will host two artists-in-residence.

BLM White Mountains National Recreation Area

Vermilion Cliffs National Monument, Marble Canyon, AZ

2014 is the first year of the program, which is being run by the Friends of The Cliffs. An artist has already been selected. For information contact the BLM monument manager, Kevin Wright at 345-688-3200 or or Friends of The Cliffs.


Canyons of the Ancients National Monument (CANM)

The National Monument is seeking two Artists-in-Residence for 2014. Applicants will spend at least one week developing artwork representative of CANM, which will be featured as part of the BLM's national Artist-in-Residence Program. Applications will be accepted though Friday, May 16, 2014.

Bruneau-Jarbidge Rivers Wilderness

Idaho BLM will be hosting an artist in the Bruneau/Jarbidge River System, a 50-mile area of exceptional natural beauty.  The artist is expected to participate in a float trip with Boise District wilderness rangers and biologists. Residencies are scheduled for May and early June 2014. The application period has closed for this year.

Owyhee River Wilderness

An artist will be able to participate in a backcountry experience on the 500,000 acres of the Owyhee Canyonlands Wilderness Areas. Residencies are scheduled for September 2014. The application deadline is August 18, 2014.


The application period has closed for this year.  Three artists and one alternate have been selected for early spring residencies.


Grand Staircase-Escalante National Monument, Utah

The application period has closed for this year.  Artists will be participating in the Escalante Canyon Arts Festival in September 2014.

Alaska's White Mountains Artist-in-Residence will stay in the Wickersham Trail Shelter, which includes two bunkds, a woodstove, propane cookstove and lantern, cooking counter, and picture window.
