The Pony Express National Historic Trail

National Historic Trails extend for a long distance. They closely follow historic trails or routes of travel.  The Pony Express National Historic Trail is part of the Bureau of Land Management’s National Landscape Conservation System . This system has about 27 million acres of public lands. The lands are set aside for their recreational, cultural, scientific, and other values. The system conserves and protects some of America’s most spectacular landscapes. People do things like hike or ride trails, and visit historic sites on the lands. Scientists conduct research on them. Ranchers sometimes graze cattle or sheep on these lands.
