Subject:           Modified Interagency Fire Management Plan Template

Program Areas: Fire Management, Planning, Emergency Stabilization, and Rehabilitation 

Purpose: This Instruction Memorandum (IM) transmits an updated version of the Interagency Fire Management Plan Template.
 
Policy/Action: Bureau of Land Management (BLM) offices are directed to use the modified Interagency Fire Management Plan Template dated April 9, 2009 when preparing or making major revisions to Fire Management Plans (FMPs). The modified template was approved by the National Wildfire Coordinating Group (NWCG) on April 15, 2009. The modified template can be found at http://www.nwcg.gov/teams/ifpc/ .
 
Timeframe: This IM is effective upon issuance.
 
Budget Impact: This IM will have minimal budgetary impact because FMP format changes are required only when FMPs are undergoing major revision.
 
Background: The September 2007 version of the Interagency Fire Management Plan Template has been revised to reflect changes in implementation guidance for Federal Wildland Fire Policy. Other revisions have also been incorporated to address issues identified through field review and use of the 2007 template.
 
Manual/Handbook Sections Affected:  This IM replaces the Interagency Fire Management Plan Template in the interim Fire Planning Manual and Handbook issued through FA IM-2008-026.
 
Coordination:  The modified template was coordinated with the Forest Service, National Park Service, Fish and Wildlife Service, Bureau of Indian Affairs, and the National Association of State Foresters.
