Subject:           BLM Open Government Plans and Activities

 

The Bureau of Land Management (BLM) is committed to the expectations set forth in Presidential memorandum requiring agencies to be transparent, participatory, and collaborative.  The President’s Office of Management and Budget (OMB) promulgated an Open Government Directive in 2009 that requires agencies to execute steps in meeting the three aforementioned principles of openness.  The Department of the Interior released its plan in 2010, and the BLM has continued to work closely with the Department in planning and execution of department-wide initiatives.  In addition, the BLM has developed and executed specific Open Government Plans and Activities.  These include increased use of data.gov in releasing high-value datasets, enhancement of the records management, Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) and directives programs.

 

The attached document details the BLM’s Open Government Plans and Activities.  This document will remain a “living document” and will be updated periodically.  The document should be used for awareness and comments are encouraged.  Each employee plays a part in implementing the transparency, participatory, and collaborative principles of Open Government.  This begins with understanding the initiative, related programs, and tools in-use and in-development.
