Subject:           Release of Draft Environmental Impact Statement for Aerial Application of Fire
                        Retardant                                                                                 DD: 6/13/2011

The United States Department of Agriculture, Forest Service has released the Draft Environmental Impact Statement (DEIS) for Aerial Application of Fire Retardant. This DEIS addresses the impacts of aerial fire retardant use on Forest Service lands. The Bureau of Land Management (BLM) is participating as a cooperating agency for the environmental impact statement.

The DEIS is available on-line at the following site: http://www.fs.fed.us/fire/retardant/eis_info.html. We will be mailing to each State Fire Management Officer a compact disk (CD) version of the DEIS. In addition, there are limited hard copies of the document available. To request a hard copy, please contact Ted Milesnick, Fire Planning and Fuels Management Division at 208-387-5198, or tmilesni@blm.gov.

While the formal public comment period ends on June 27, 2011, we are requesting that any Washington office, state office or field office comments be submitted via email by June 13, 2011 to Louis Brueggeman, BLM Fire Management Liaison, at lbruegge@blm.gov. This will allow the BLM to submit one consolidated set of comments and/or feedback to the Department of the Interior to respond to the United States Forest Service.

Questions regarding the DEIS may be directed to Louis Brueggeman at lbruegge@blm.gov 202-208-4672, or Ted Milesnick, at tmilesni@blm.gov 208-387-5198.
