Subject:          Bureau of Land Management NLCS Summit, November 15-18, 2010 and Request for Names of BLM Attendees                              DD: 9/17/2010

This year, the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) is celebrating the 10th Anniversary of the establishment of the National Landscape Conservation System (NLCS).  The BLM has hosted three national events and is in the planning stages for the fourth, a NLCS Summit, to be held in Las Vegas, Nevada, November 15-18, 2010. The purpose of the Summit is to provide a diverse forum to solicit, discuss, and build upon ideas and suggestions identified during this past year. The outcome of the Summit will be recommendations for a blueprint for the NLCS for the next 10 years. It is our goal that the participants will leave the Summit with enhanced knowledge and tools in support of advancing the conservation of the NLCS landscapes where people live, work, and play; and to better integrate the NLCS within the BLM’s multiple-use mandate and across jurisdictional boundaries.

State Directors and Assistant Directors are expected to participate and are requested to personally review and provide names of additional participants, including future leaders, from their state, field, and district offices.  We anticipate these will include a mix of  district and field managers, National Landscape Conservation System state leads, including national monument/national conservation area, wilderness, wild and scenic rivers, national scenic and historic trail state leads, and National Monument/National Conservation Area Managers, and resource staff (i.e., Cultural, Wildlife) at the State and/or Field Office level.

Costs of travel, lodging, and per diem will be paid by the Washington Office.  Attached is a table of travel allocations by state. You can charge up to the amounts indicated for your employees’ travel to and while at the Summit. The amounts allocated were determined by the number and acreage of NLCS units in each state and commuting status of employees. The Summit registration fee will be covered by the sending office.

Please provide the names of participants by close of business September 17, 2010, to Twinkle Thompson-Seitts by email at Twinkle_Thompson-Seitts@blm.gov with a copy to Carl Rountree by email at Carl_Rountree@blm.gov

Depending on the total number of confirmed Summit attendees, there may be some adjustments later so please provide the names of three additional potential BLM participants. Additional information regarding registration details, lodging, etc. will be provided at a later date.
