Subject:            The Department of the Interior Educational Partnership’s “Student Forum Series”: Request for Topic Suggestions and Speaker Nominations                    DD: 09/10/2010

Under longstanding partnerships with several schools in the Washington, D.C., metropolitan area, the Department, its eight bureaus, and the Department Library and Museum have regularly arranged for agency specialists in various fields to make curriculum-related “Student Forum Series” classroom presentations during the academic year.

The Department has requested that bureaus provide both lists of suggested agency-appropriate presentation topics as well as the names and contact information of staff specialists who would be interested in making presentations on those topics. (Last year, the eight topics submitted by BLM included Archaeology, Exploring Caves, Soil Importance, and the Lewis and Clark Expedition.) The resultant bureau-by-bureau topic compilation will then be presented to partner schools as part of a Department “Speaker Request Form” for use by teachers during the 2010-2011 school year.

We would appreciate receiving your topic suggestions and a list of interested speakers (with office codes, e-mail addresses, and telephone numbers) by September 10, 2010. Responses should be submitted to Betsy Wooster, BLM National Youth Programs Coordinator, at Elizabeth_Wooster@blm.gov.

Thank you for your assistance. Should you have any questions or require further information, please feel free to call Betsy at (202) 912-7454 or Bibi Booth, Deputy Chief, Division of Education, Interpretation, and Partnerships, at (202) 912-7451.
