Subject:            Request for Designation of Staff to Collaborate on Web Features:  BLM Tourist Destinations for Youth and Families within the National Landscape Conservation System                                                                                        DD: 09/09/2009

Two of BLM’s current priorities are programs and opportunities for youth and families and the “treasured landscapes” of the National Landscape Conservation System, which will celebrate its tenth anniversary in 2010.

The Division of Education, Interpretation & Partnerships (EIP) is in the process of enhancing BLM’s Tourism Program webpage to include information on tourist destinations that feature both priority components: spectacular NLCS sites with activities and/or other characteristics that will appeal to youth and families. The Tourism Program page at http://www.blm.gov/wo/st/en/res/Education_in_BLM/Learning_Landscapes/For_Travelers.html will feature a rotating series of online “spotlights” on such tourist destinations. Standard informational components will appear in each Tourism Program feature.

At this time, we would appreciate your identifying three NLCS sites within your State that meet the above criteria, along with a contact person for each to work with EIP staff in creating Tourism spotlight features for those sites.  The features will also be posted on the BLM “Programs for School-Age Youth” webpage at http://www.blm.gov/wo/st/en/res/Education_in_BLM/Learning_Landscapes/school_age_youth.html; therefore, please ensure that the youth/family appeal of the sites you select will be obvious to webpage visitors.

Please provide site names and locations and associated contact names to Mary Tisdale at
Mary Tisdale@blm.gov or (202) 452-0365 by September 09, 2009. Thank you for your assistance with this effort.
