UNITED STATES DEPARTMENT OF THE INTERIOR February 9, 2009 In Reply Refer To: 1114 (172) P EMS TRANSMISSION 02/12/2009 Information Bulletin No. 2009-042 To: All Washington Office and Field Office Officials From: Director, Office of the National Landscape Conservation System & Community Partnerships Subject: Bureau of Land Management’s new Learning Landscapes web site I am pleased to announce the release of BLM’s new Learning Landscapes web site: The new site reflects the expanded areas of responsibility for BLM’s Division of Education, Interpretation, and Partnerships (WO-172). As outlined in the Managing for Excellence initiative, WO-172 is now responsible for Environmental and Heritage Education, Interpretation, Tourism, Volunteers, and Partnerships. The new site, therefore, includes content not only from the former “Education and Volunteers” web site, but new, convenient links to Heritage Education resources and information for travelers, such as sample itineraries and virtual tours. These are just a few resources available on the web site, which is organized into sections for: · Kids · Teachers · Learners of All Ages · Tourists and Travelers · Volunteers · Partnerships We encourage you to visit our web site and explore. You will find some familiar materials organized in new ways and you’ll find some new features as well, including “Programs in Your Area,” which highlights selected education programs for school and non-school audiences organized by state. In addition, we strongly encourage you to check and update links to our web site from your State pages. Pages on the old Learning Landscape web site are in the process of being deactivated, and links to those pages will not be automatically redirected to the new site. We are looking forward to your comments and suggestions on web site content, improvements, and links to state information related to education, interpretation, tourism, volunteers, and partnerships. For technical questions and concerns, please contact Mike Smith (Michael_A_Smith@blm.gov). For content suggestions, please contact Betsy Wooster (Elizabeth_Wooster@blm.gov).
