UNITED STATES DEPARTMENT OF THE INTERIOR BUREAU OF LAND MANAGEMENT Washington, D.C. 20240 November 30, 2007 In Reply Refer To: 6500 (230) P EMS TRANSMISSION 12/10/2007 Information Bulletin No. 2008-019 To: All Field Officials From: Assistant Director, Renewable Resources and Planning Subject: Request for Nominations for Natural Resource Conservation Awards for the 2008 North American Wildlife and Natural Resources Conference DD: 01/31/2008 Each year, the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) Director and the USDA Forest Service (FS) Chief host an awards reception at the North American Wildlife and Natural Resources Conference to recognize outstanding individual achievements by natural resources professionals in each agency. This Information Bulletin is a request for nominations for this years meeting, which is scheduled March 24-27, 2008, in Phoenix, Arizona. The deadline for nominations is January 31, 2008. Nominations are being accepted for the following categories: Karl Urban Celebrating Wild Flowers Award Conservation Project Award Conservation Leadership Award Linda Siebert Career Achievement Award The first three awards are being presented jointly by the BLM and the FS to recognize outstanding contributions for individuals or organizations who demonstrate exemplary work in the conservation and management of fish, wildlife and native plant resources on public land administered by the BLM and the FS. The Linda Siebert Award will be presented to a current or retired BLM employee who has made significant contributions to the conservation of fish, wildlife and botanic resources over the course of their career. Any outstanding botanist, fisheries/aquatic resource biologist, wildlife biologist, BLM State Office program lead, or BLM line manager is eligible to receive this award. All State Directors are encouraged to nominate individuals they feel should be recognized. Please take a few minutes to consider individuals or organizations that deserve national recognition by BLM’s Director and the FS Chief. Attached are the criteria to help evaluate and select nominees for these awards. If the group or project being nominated has a unique logo, we request the logo be attached with the nomination form. In developing your nominations, focus on key accomplishments of the nominees as they relate to the attached criteria, as well as, overall benefits to fish, wildlife and botanic resources. Use the nomination form to document (either in paragraph or bullet format) how your nominee meets the nomination criteria. Please limit your submission to two pages, and forward your nominations electronically by January 31, 2008, to Geoffrey Walsh, Wildlife Biologist, Division of Fish, Wildlife and Plant Conservation (WO-230).
