EMS TRANSMISSION 08/29/2006 Information Bulletin No. 2006-121 To: Assistant Directors and State Directors From: Assistant Director, Minerals, Realty and Resource Protection Subject: Project Manager Named for Geothermal Programmatic Environmental Impact Statement This is to announce that we have named Jack G. Peterson as the Project Manager for the geothermal Programmatic Environmental Impact Statement (PEIS). Doing a PEIS was determined to be the most efficient way of addressing general impacts and mitigation, and making associated Resource Management Plan amendments to accommodate geothermal leasing. The project will assess national geothermal resources for direct and indirect use of geothermal resources on Public and National Forest Lands. Several recent initiatives, including the Energy Policy Act of 2005, have called for increasing our assessment, planning, permitting and development of geothermal energy. Jack is currently pulling together the formal scope of the project and recruiting team members from the Bureau of Land Management (BLM), the Forest Service, the United States Geological Survey (USGS), state geological surveys, and key universities. He also is working with BLM and the Forest Service (FS) geothermal specialists in drafting a formal statement of work for contract purposes. Jack recently led the successful effort to launch the 200 MW Cotterel Wind Power Project on BLM administered lands in Idaho. He is a Senior Program Manager located in the Office of the State Director in Boise, Idaho. He will report to the Division Chief for Fluid Minerals for this assignment. When called upon, please assist Jack, his team and contractor as they move forward with this important national project.
