Subject:           Implementation of Service First with the Forest Service (FS) and the Bureau of Land Management (BLM)

 

I am pleased to tell you that the FS and the BLM are jointly taking the next steps to advance our partnership of working together through Service First. Over the past few years, the agencies have made progress in the Fuels Reduction and Healthy Forests, Competitive Sourcing, Information Technology, Collocation, and Minerals and Energy Programs at both the national and field level.  

 

The objectives identified from our joint BLM-FS Executive Leadership Team meeting in April are central to making progress across the agencies and with the other Department of the Interior agencies. During that session, I made a commitment with the FS’s Associate Chief Sally Collins to pursue these opportunities so that we can more fully integrate the principles of Service First into our efforts in the field and nationally. Our next steps are outlined in the attached joint memorandum and action plan. 

 

I am fully committed to providing better service to the public and improving efficiencies and effectiveness in our two organizations by moving forward on Service First initiatives and removing barriers to field implementation.
