Subject: 2006 Riparian Challenge Award DD: 04/06/2006
The Western Division of the American Fisheries Society (AFS) has invited the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) to participate in the Riparian Challenge, an award to continue the encouragement of on-the-ground accomplishments in riparian habitat management in States encompassed by the Western Division AFS. The purpose of the invitation is to:
- Encourage the BLM to strive for excellence in riparian habitat management;
- Encourage progress in on the ground accomplishments, which when added together throughout the West, will significantly improve riparian systems; and
- Recognize managers and resource specialists for their efforts in maintaining, restoring, and improving riparian ecosystems.
The Western Division AFS is requesting that BLM field units and State Offices submit nominations for the Riparian Challenge Award. Each office remitting a form should send only one form, which may include more than one project/plan. Entries must be received no later than April 6, 2006. The 2006 Awards of Excellence in Riparian Management will be presented at the Western Division’s annual business meeting in Bozeman, Montana. The meeting will be held from May 15-19, 2006. Instructions for evaluating potential Riparian Challenge Award recipients (Criteria for Evaluation) and a sample 2006 Riparian Challenge Entry Form are attached.
