EMS TRANSMISISON 02/07/2006 Information Bulletin No. 2006-056 To: All State Directors From: Group Manager, the Division of Cultural, Paleontological Resources and Tribal Consultation Subject: National Historic Preservation Act (NHPA), Section 106 Training The Advisory Council for Historic Preservation (ACHP) has announced its upcoming Section 106 Essentials training schedule for 2006. Please see the attached flyer which details the course objectives and logistics or visit www.achp.gov/106essentials for registration and pricing. This course covers the basics for compliance with the NHPA. This course is appropriate for newly hired cultural resources personnel, who have not had previous section 106 training or significant experience and who have not yet had the opportunity to take the Bureau of Land Management’s (BLM) Fundamentals for Managing the Cultural Heritage Program course. The BLM’s fundamentals course specifically addresses how BLM implements the NHPA, and all cultural resource specialists are expected to take this course early in their careers to insure consistency with and understanding of BLM’s procedures. However, the fundamentals course will not be offered again until Fall 2006 (Fiscal Year (FY) 07). Therefore, new cultural resource specialists without previous training would benefit from taking the ACHP course in FY06.
