Wild Horse & Burro Festival 
Deseret Peak Complex 
June 8-9, 2012

 

WELCOME and THANK YOU for your interest in the 14th Annual Utah Wild Horse and Burro Festival. The festival begins Friday, June 8th at 12:00 noon and runs through Saturday, June 9th. Performance classes begin at 12:00 noon on Friday and 9 a.m. on Saturday. The location is a change from previous years.

The primary goal of this horse show is to learn and have fun. Another goal is to give you the opportunity to demonstrate what a wild horse can accomplish when given proper care and training. This is a BLM wild horse, burro and mule show requiring all animals to have a US BLM Freeze Mark and proof of Certificate of Title or Adoption Papers.
 
New this Year:   There are a few changes this year:
1.      Show location- at Deseret Peak Complex, Tooele, UT.
 
Healthy Horse and Burro: We want everyone to be comfortable knowing they are in the company of healthy horses. A current Coggins test and Health certificate are NOT required for in-state travel, however, for those coming from another state, The State of Utah requires a current Coggins Test and Health Certificate.
 
Adoption:  More details to come.

Pre-Registration:   Pre-registration is strongly encouraged. This year contestants my pre-register on-line at http://uwhbf.org with payment due upon check-in at the show. 

Registration:   Included in the show packet is a Show Registration Form, Show Class Schedule, BLM Photo Release Form, Show Rules, High Point Award Sheet, Directions to Facility, Facility Map, Festival of Learning Flyer, and Festival of Learning Schedule. Pre-registration is strongly encouraged. When you arrive at the park, check in with registration at the announcer’s stand. Please do not unload your horses until you have checked in. If you have any questions, please call Lisa at 435.979.2838 or email at Lisa_Reid@blm.gov.

Facilities: Deseret Peak Complex, 2930 West Highway 112, Tooele, Utah. We are very excited to apart of Tooele County's 1st Annual Wild Horse and Heritage Days.  Our show will be held in the impressive and spacious indoor arena. The arena holds 2000 people with 250 nearby stalls.  Reminder: the Deseret Peak Cjdoes not allow any animals to be tied to trailers overnight in the parking areas. You must use the facility stalls for overnight boarding. See stall information below.
 
Stalls: All animals that remain overnight are required to be in a rented stall. Park personnel will be conducting a pre-dark compliance inspection to enforce this rule. Only one animal per stall will be allowed.

Awards: Trophies and ribbons will be awarded along with special high-point prizes. Awards will need to be picked up at the show.

Lodging: There are numerous hotels located in Tooele, UT.
 
Warm-up Time: Included in your registration fee is use of the arena. Arena warm-up will be Friday, June 8 from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m., and Saturday, June 9from 6:00 a.m. to 8:00 a.m.
 
Patterns: Please Note - All Patterns Are Subject to Change. Normally, trail patterns are not provided prior to the show. However, we want to offer everyone an opportunity to prepare and have fun, so some preliminary show patterns are included in your registration packet. There might be some modifications depending on the judge, just to keep you guessing.
 
Grand Entry: Exhibitors are encouraged to participate in the Grand Entry ceremony being held on Saturday at 9:00 a.m. Exhibitors wishing to present their state flag or organization flag during the Grand Entry must provide their own flag. Please be in the arena and ready to show/ride in the grand entry by 8:45 am on Saturday morning so that we can go over the order of go and how to proceed.
 
Stallions/Intact Jacks: Stallions and Intact Jacks are allowed to participate in the show as long as their handler is 18 years or older. If at any time the stallion or “intact” Jack becomes disobedient, the Committee reserves the right to remove the animal and handler from the show without being liable for compensation or damages.
 
Volunteers: We can always use extra help with the clinics, gates, barns, parking, etc. If interested, please call Janet Tipton at 801.554.4431. 
 
Pets: For safety reasons, we ask that you please not bring pets.
