Sand Island Petroglyphs
What To See And Do: Kokopelli, the humpbacked flute player of ancient Pueblo mythology, is represented by figures on the petroglyph panel at Sand Island. Test your skill at
identifying him. The easily accessible rock art panel at Sand Island is extensive and represents images from 800 to 2500 years old. It presents a good overview of the type of rock art that is found all along the San Juan River. Camping and vault toilets are provided here, but no water. Desert temperatures can be extremely hot and dry. Plan ahead and be prepared. Bring appropriate clothing and lots of water when visiting this site.
How To Get There: The well signed access is from Hwy 153 about four miles southwest of the community of Bluff.
