BLM Seeks Volunteers for Raptor Inventory Nest Survey

 Change in Meeting Time

Salt Lake City, Utah—The Bureau of Land Management (BLM) Utah Salt Lake Field Office is seeking volunteers to assist with the annual Raptor Inventory Nest Survey (RINS) in northern Utah.  Participation as a volunteer does not require special experience or education, and the BLM will provide training.  In fact, the only prerequisites are a love for the outdoors, especially Utah’s beautiful west desert, and a sincere desire to help the magnificent birds of prey that call our state home.

No science credentials are necessary to be a RINS volunteer.  Interested individuals don’t even need to know how to discover a nest or identify a raptor because the BLM will give each volunteer complete training, including map reading and navigation using a GPS, and field safety procedures.  To become a volunteer, you must attend one of the training workshops.  Training workshops will be held Feb. 23 and March 2 from 12:00 noon to 4:00 p.m., with lunch from 11:30 am to noon, at the Salt Lake Field Office, 2370 South 2300 West, Salt Lake City, Utah.

It is recommended that you own a pair of binoculars, a GPS unit, and have an email address.  The time commitment for volunteers is two field days per month from March through July to monitor an assigned area.

For more information, visit www.rins.org, call (801)977-4300, or send an email to info@rins.org.
