Vernal, Utah - The Bureau of Land Management (BLM) Vernal Field Office (VFO) announces that the Environmental Assessment (EA) for Cochrane’s Horse Point 12-13 Well is available for public comment. The 15-day public comment period begins on January 20, 2012, and ends on February 6, 2012. This document analyzes the potential environmental impacts of Cochrane Resources, Inc.’s proposed well. The EA is available on the BLM VFO website at http://www.blm.gov/ut/st/en/fo/vernal/planning/nepa_.html. Under the Proposed Action, one new gas well would be drilled in Township 16 South, Range 23 East, Section 13 in Grand County. The well would be located directly south of the Divide Ridge Road in the Book Cliffs. Total new surface disturbance under the Proposed Action would be approximately 2.0 acres. If you wish to submit comments on this EA, we request that you make them as specific as possible, with references to page numbers and chapters of the document. The most useful comments will contain new technical or scientific information, identify data gaps in the impact analysis, or will provide technical or scientific rationale for opinions or preferences. Please refer to “Cochrane Horse Point 12-13” in your correspondence. Written comments will be accepted by fax, email, or letter. The BLM manages more land - over 245 million acres - than any other Federal agency. This land, known as the National System of Public Lands, is primarily located in 12 Western states, including Alaska. The Bureau, with a budget of about $1 billion, also administers 700 million acres of sub-surface mineral estate throughout the nation. The BLM's multiple-use mission is to sustain the health and productivity of the public lands for the use and enjoyment of present and future generations. The Bureau accomplishes this by managing such activities as outdoor recreation, livestock grazing, mineral development, and energy production, and by conserving natural, historical, cultural, and other resources on public lands. |
