Broken Mesa Rim Trail

Recommended Users: Equestrians, Hikers, Mountain Bikers

Type: Singletrack

Length: 4.35 miles

Sub-Area: Broken Mesa

Zone: Upland

Managing Agency:  BLM

Access:  Broken Mesa Trailhead—From I-15 Exit 8 turn west onto St. George Blvd. Turn right on 1000 East.  Turn right at the traffic light on Red Hills Parkway. Continue until reaching Cottonwood Springs Road and turn left. This road turns into Cottonwood Road at the intersection with Red Rock Road. From this intersection, travel approximately 7.7 miles on Cottonwood Road to the Broken Mesa Trailhead turnoff on the right. The Cottonwood Road begins as pavement and turns to gravel; road conditions can be rough and rocky so high clearance vehicles are recommended.

Description: The first 0.6 miles of the trail climb steeply up the side of the rocky basalt slope known locally as Broken Mesa. Once on the top of the mesa, the trail winds downhill along the rim for another 3.75 miles until reaching the intersection with the Ice House Trail. Views to the west from the rim are stunning, looking all the way over to the Beaver Dam Mountains. The mesa itself is damaged from previous fires, but wildflowers and shrubs are continuing to poke up through the grasses.
