Lands and Realty
BLM’s St. George Field Office maintains an exceptionally active program in the Lands and Realty functions. Approximately 35,000 acres of public lands are located within the incorporated limits of 13 municipalities in Washington County, Utah. Because the field office serves the public in one of the fastest growing metropolitan areas in the United States, it responds to numerous requests for community needs for infrastructure including roads, utility lines, water storage and transport facilities, parks, school sites, recreation areas, communication sites, and a host of other uses allowed on public lands in support of community development. Where approved, responses can include the issuance of short-term permits, long-term rights-of-way, easements, and land leases or involve the sale, exchange, or disposition of public lands into ownership by city, county, state, or private interests. BLM also maintains public land records which are used by government agencies, businesses, organizations, and private individuals to determine land status and original title.
