Areas of Critical Environmental Concern

Red Mountain ACEC

Red Mountain ACECThis 4,854 acre area is located immediately north of the city of Ivins, Utah, and the Shivwits Indian Reservation and four miles northwest of the city of St. George. This ACEC is intended to protect the spectacular vermillion cliffs that serve as a backdrop to the communities of Ivins, Santa Clara, and western St. George. The escarpment overshadows Snow Canyon State Park and has high significance to members of the Southern Paiute Indian Tribe and the Shivwits Band of Indians. It is at risk from off-road motorized vehicle travel inside closed areas and encroachments from the adjacent urban areas.
