Back Country Byways

Back Country Byways, BLM's unique contribution to the nation's Byway program, combine America's century-old love affair with motor vehicles, hiking, and biking in the outdoors. Each Byway provides the public with recreational opportunities while informing them about natural and cultural resources and multiple use activities on the public domain.

Complementing this national system of roads, Utah has designated its own "roads less traveled" system, called Scenic Byways and Backways.

There are three designated BLM Backcountry Byways within the boundaries of the Salt Lake Field Office:

  • Pony Express Trail
  • Silver Island Mountains
  • Transcontinental Railroad Grade
