Fire Mitigation and Education Program

The fire education and mitigation program at the Salt Lake Field Office oversees fire prevention, education, mitigation, public information, and the investigation and recovery of the cost of human-caused fires.

Smokey Bear pays a visit to Mr. Cassler's Fourth Grade Class

Mr. Marvin Cassler, upper right, invited Smokey Bear to his Fourth Grade classroom to supplement his adaptation curriculum.  Mr. Cassler works for the Salt Lake Field Office during the summer as a Helitack crew member.

The Wildland Urban Interface is an increasing problem for fire officials

Eighty-six percent of the State's population lives within the field office boundaries.  New home and urban development is an intensifying issue.  Developments are pushing farther out, creating bedroom communities with limited fire protection.
