OHV users travel from far and wide to enjoy the mancos-shale badlands of Factory Butte. These scenic badlands provide OHV users an unparalleled riding experience. Factory Butte is a popular recreation site for everything from OHV jumping and riding to motorcycling and passenger car touring.
In order to protect riding opportunities in the Factory Butte area, some changes have been made to accommodate various types of recreation and to protect the Winkler and Wright fishhook cacti.
Under the new recreation plan, motorized users will still have access to more than 220 miles of designated routes at Factory Butte that provide scenic loops and challenges for all skill levels.
In addition, the popular off-highway vehicle (OHV) recreational area called Swing Arm City will remain open as an OHV play area. This 2,600-acre area will continue to be accessible to all types of motorized recreational use.
These riding areas will allow users to explore Factory Butte in areas that can ecologically handle motorized use. This plan provides a variety of recreational opportunities, while protecting the natural qualities that makes this area loved by recreationists.
