Within this area BLM manages 2.1 million acres of public land surface and mineral estate, and an additional 95,000 acres of split estate lands (Federal minerals where the surface estate is in state or private ownership). The BLM also has administrative responsibility for 2,082,865 acres of mineral estate where the surface is managed by other Federal agencies (U.S. Forest Service and National Park Service).
The Richfield Draft Resource Management Plan/Draft Environmental Impact Statement (DRMP/DEIS) presents five alternatives which take into consideration scoping comments received by other governmental agencies, public organizations, state, tribal entities and interested individuals. Public collaboration through the scoping process led to shaping of issues covering travel management, recreation, special designations, non-WSA lands with wilderness characteristics, minerals and other topics. The DRMP/DEIS analyzes alternatives to resolve management issues and determines management objectives and actions for BLM lands in the planning area.
During the 90-day public comment period, we will be holding public meetings to introduce the document and to collect public comments. Meetings will be held in Richfield, Bicknell, Junction, Manti, Panguitch, and Salt Lake City, Utah. Click here for public meeting dates and locations. The comment period will conclude on January 23, 2008.
This website contains the complete DRMP/DEIS as well as the Background Documents used in its preparation. These background documents include the Scoping Summary, the Mineral Potential Report, the Reasonable Foreseeable Development scenario for oil and gas, a socioeconomic study for the RFO, the Wild and Scenic River reports, the ACEC Relevance and Importance Report, and the Determinations of Wilderness Characteristics review. CDs containing the document are also available. You may request a CD by contacting the Richfield Field Office at 150 East 900 North, Richfield, UT 84701, or by calling BLM at 435-896-1500.
This website also contains detailed route inventory maps which vary by alternative. It should be noted that route designations are implementation decisions, not part of the RMP, and that the resulting transportation network could change over time. Work on a route inventory and route designations is ongoing and will be refined between the Draft EIS and Final EIS. Comments on the route inventory and proposed route designations are invited during the DRMP/DEIS comment period.
