Helitack Crew, Moab Fire DistrictA large portion of the Moab, Monticello, and Price Field Office area is accessible only by air or on foot.  The CCFZ helitack program was established in 2001 to provide support and respond to incident requests on public lands administered by the BLM as well as National Forest, National Park Service, and Utah State lands.  The helitack program has proven to be a highly valued fire management tool in the remote backcountry for fire reconnaissance, initial attack, and large fire support, and also for a variety of air operations in the implementation of resource projects such as wildlife and soils.  The CCFZ helitack program flies over 200 hours each year and directly attacks or assists in suppression activities for an average of 70 fires each season.
