Camping

BLM offers two developed Campgrounds in the area

Sand Island Campground 
Located on the bank of the San Juan River 3 miles west of Bluff, Utah.

  • elevation: 4300 feet
  • open year round
  • fee: $10 per campsite per night (2 car maximum)
  • 27 campsites
  • drinking water
  • picnic tables
  • fire grates
  • Pit toilets
  • boat launch
  • group site (Group campsite reservations are available through the Monticello Field Office a (435) 587-1504.)

Hamburger Rock Campground
CampigroundLocated north off highway 211, approximately 3 miles west of Canyonlands National Park.

  • elevation: 4900 feet
  • open year round
  • fee: $6.00 per night
  • 8 campsites
  • Picnic tables
  • Fire grates
  • Pit toilets
  • NO water

There are also opportunities for dispersed primitive camping in the resource area including Comb Wash and Indian Creek.

If you do decide to camp in a dispersed area, please follow the Canyon Country Minimum Impact Practices. Please call the BLM office at (435) 587-1500 for more information about dispersed camping.

All dispersed campers in the Indian Creek area must carry out their human waste. Waste disposal bags are available at the following four locations in Indian Creek:  Bridger Jack, Creek Pasture, Superbowl, and Super Crack.
