San Juan River
The BLM Monticello Field Office manages a 104 mile section of the San Juan River between Montezuma Creek and Clay Hills Crossing that provides boaters with access to spectacular canyons rich in scenery, geology, archeology, history, and wildlife. The San Juan has several class II to III rapids that require technical boating skill.

A permit is required year-round to float any section of the San Juan River between Montezuma Creek and Clay Hills. For more information on permits, visit the San Juan River Permits page.
