There are 2 group campsites at Onion Creek. Each site has a shade structure, fire grills, picnic tables and a vault toilet. The Upper Onion Creek Camping Area is located in the heart of Richardson Amphitheater, offering spectacular views of the Colorado River corridor, Fisher Towers and Castle Rock. These sites are very close to a trail system for equestrian use. A corral is available at Group Site A for use by campers interested in exploring the area on horseback.

How to Get There: The Onion Creek Group Campsites are located about 22 miles east of Moab. Take SR 128 to the Onion Creek Road, between mile marker 21 and 22, where a sign marks the road. Continue 0.6 miles on the graded dirt road, then turn left into the group campground.

Facilities: There are 2 group campsites at Onion Creek. Each site has a shade structure, fire grills, picnic tables and a vault toilet. Campers must carry out their trash. The nearest trash dumpster is located at the Hittle Bottom Campground, 3 miles east on SR 128. There is no drinking water at the recreation site, but water is available at the Lion's Park pedestrian bridge located east of High 191 on SR 128.

Group Site A has a wooden horse corral with 4 separate 15 foot by 15 foot enclosures. The corral can accommodate up to 8 horses (2 per enclosure). Equestrians must bring their own feed, weed free hay is required, and must clean up and carry out all solid horse waste.

Site Size: Both sites hold 8 to 20 people. No more than 4 vehicles with horse trailers can be accommodated at Site A. It is possible to reserve both sites which would provide a maximum group size of 40 people.

Fees: The fee for group camping is $4.00 per person per night, plus a $20.00 reservation fee.  You must pay for the minimum group size of 8 people. There will be a $20.00 fee each time you change the place or date of your reservation. Any changes to the number of people in your group can be made without incurring this charge. All fees are nonrefundable.

Campsite Regulations: Campground regulations apply to the group site as well. Please make sure that every member of your group is familiar with the camping regulations.

  • No amplified music is allowed in the campground at any time.
  • Quiet hours are 10 p.m. to 6 a.m.
  • Generator hours are 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. only
  • Wood collecting or cutting is prohibited
  • Campfires are only permitted in the provided grills or fire pits.
  • Dogs must be leashed at all times.
  • Check out time is Noon
