How to Get There: The Upper Onion Creek Group Campsites are located approximately 22 miles east of Moab on Utah Highway 128. Between mileposts 21 and 22, turn south onto the Onion Creek Road (which is indicated with a sign). Drive 0.6 miles on this graded road to a left turn into Group Site A; Group Site B is located 0.1 mile further. Turn left into Group Site B 0.7 miles from Utah Highway 128.

Facilities: There are two group campsites along Upper Onion Creek. Each reservable campsite has two fire grills and a wooden-surround vault toilet. Site A also has a wooden horse corral with four separate 15 by 15 foot enclosures. This corral can accommodate eight horses (with two horses in each enclosure). All campers bringing horses are required to clean up and carry out all solid horse waste (please bring equipment to do so) and must bring in their own weed-free feed. Although Onion Creek is a permanent source of water, and is consumed by some local stock, the water is highly saline. Campers bringing horses should bring their own water, especially for those horses that are particular about such things.

All campers must carry out all trash. The closest trash dumpster is located at Hittle Bottom Campground, which is three miles to the east on Utah Highway 128. A dumpster is also available at Big Bend Campground, which is twelve miles to the west on Utah Highway 128. Drinking water is not available at the sites, however it is available at Lions Park, which is at the intersection of Highways 191 and 128 two miles north of Moab.  The water is located by the pedestrian bridge dedication plaque.

Site Size: Each of the reservable sites accommodates up to 20 people. Group Site A also accommodates up to eight horses, and up to four vehicles with horse trailers.

Fees: The fee for group camping is $2.50 per person per night.  There is a $15.00 reservation fee. Any changes to the location or date of a group site reservation will require an additional $15.00 fee.  You must pay for a minimum of eight people.

For more information or for reservations, please call the Moab Field Office at (435) 259-2100.
